Advocate Experience
It is an honor to support the mission of Vermilion/Edgar County CASA because…

Mandy McCool, Advocate.
"I come from quite a chaotic childhood. At least several times a year, a child service representative would stop by our home to do visits in determining our wellbeing, and unfortunately, not much at all was done during these many instances to ensure my little brother's and my safety. We were never placed within a foster family when we would likely have benefited from it. This was just a part of life for us, and looking back as adults, it's difficult to truly comprehend just how deeply disturbing many of these situations were and how they have impacted us decades later. This is the reason I decided to become an advocate for CASA. No child should ever feel as though they are overlooked when they need help the most. I know my brother and I would have benefited from having a CASA volunteer looking out for us when no one else would or could. So, my greatest hope is that I can be that sense of peace for a little someone until life feels safe again, or even for the first time. Childhood is precious, and every child deserves to experience it with love and safety."
Wayne Johnson, Advocate as of 2025
I believe being there as an early support system can help change a child’s life. All it takes is the willingness to show up, listen, and advocate for a child who needs someone in their corner. It’s a quiet, meaningful service that can create a long-lasting impact.

"Volunteering with CASA of Vermilion & Edgar Counties has been a deeply meaningful calling for me. As someone who has always believed in supporting children and communities- whether in my hometown Mexico City or now in Danville- I felt compelled to advocate for those who need an extra hand. Over the past months, visiting a young child in foster care has shown me the power of consistent care and human connection. Seeing her thrive in a safe, nurturing environment reminds me that even small acts of service can offer comfort, stability, and hope. Being a CASA volunteer has not only allowed me to contribute but has also changed me by reinforcing my belief that compassion truly matters."

Amy Kocher, Foster Parent
When we were first introduced to CASA. We were a tad bit overwhelmed. We were new to the Foster care system. Although, as time went on, we grew a bond. Our worker always responded honestly and thoroughly, when we had concerns or questions about our case. She was very resourceful when we didn't know which way to go. You could see the passion she had on all the children in the home. To me, that is very important. I would recommend every home have a CASA worker on their side.
